### sec.167 Purpose of service and achievement
The purpose of the chief executive service is to promote—
the public service’s effectiveness and efficiency; and
collaboration between departments with a focus on public service-wide priorities in addition to department-specific priorities; and
performance management in the public service; and
the delivery of services by the public service in accordance with government priorities.
The purpose is to be achieved by attracting, developing and retaining in the public service a core of mobile, highly skilled chief executives.
(sec.167-ssec.1) The purpose of the chief executive service is to promote— the public service’s effectiveness and efficiency; and collaboration between departments with a focus on public service-wide priorities in addition to department-specific priorities; and performance management in the public service; and the delivery of services by the public service in accordance with government priorities.
(sec.167-ssec.2) The purpose is to be achieved by attracting, developing and retaining in the public service a core of mobile, highly skilled chief executives.
