### sec.818 Transitional provision about public interest monitor
This section applies to a person who, immediately before the commencement of this section—
held office under the old Act as—
the public interest monitor; or
a deputy public interest monitor; or
was appointed under section 79A of the old Act to act as—
the public interest monitor; or
a deputy public interest monitor.
On the commencement of this section—
the public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as the public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and
a deputy public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as a deputy public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and
a person appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public interest monitor is taken to have been appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public monitor under this Act on the conditions decided under the old Act.
In this section—
old Act means the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 1997 .

(sec.818-ssec.1) This section applies to a person who, immediately before the commencement of this section— held office under the old Act as— the public interest monitor; or a deputy public interest monitor; or was appointed under section 79A of the old Act to act as— the public interest monitor; or a deputy public interest monitor.
(sec.818-ssec.2) On the commencement of this section— the public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as the public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and a deputy public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as a deputy public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and a person appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public interest monitor is taken to have been appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public monitor under this Act on the conditions decided under the old Act.
(sec.818-ssec.3) In this section— old Act means the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 1997 .
- (a) held office under the old Act as— (i) the public interest monitor; or (ii) a deputy public interest monitor; or
- (i) the public interest monitor; or
- (ii) a deputy public interest monitor; or
- (b) was appointed under section 79A of the old Act to act as— (i) the public interest monitor; or (ii) a deputy public interest monitor.
- (i) the public interest monitor; or
- (ii) a deputy public interest monitor.
- (i) the public interest monitor; or
- (ii) a deputy public interest monitor; or
- (i) the public interest monitor; or
- (ii) a deputy public interest monitor.
- (a) the public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as the public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and
- (b) a deputy public interest monitor under the old Act is taken to have been appointed as a deputy public interest monitor under this Act on the conditions, and for the balance of the term of the appointment, decided under the old Act; and
- (c) a person appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public interest monitor is taken to have been appointed to act as the public interest monitor or a deputy public monitor under this Act on the conditions decided under the old Act.
