### sec.282 Application for authority to acquire or use assumed identity
A law enforcement officer of a law enforcement agency may apply to the chief executive officer of the agency for an authority for the law enforcement officer or another person to do either or both of the following—
acquire an assumed identity;
use an assumed identity.
A separate application must be made for each assumed identity to be acquired or used.
An application—
must be in writing in the form decided by the chief executive officer; and
must contain all of the following information—
the applicant’s name;
if a person other than the applicant is to be authorised to acquire or use an assumed identity—that person’s name;
if the person mentioned in subparagraph (ii) is not a law enforcement officer—the name and rank or position of the law enforcement officer proposed to be appointed as supervisor, and an explanation of why it is necessary for a person who is not a law enforcement officer to acquire or use the assumed identity;
details of the proposed assumed identity;
reasons for the need to acquire or use an assumed identity;
details, to the extent known, of the investigation or intelligence gathering exercise in which the assumed identity will be used;
details of any issuing agencies and the types of evidence to be issued by them.
The chief executive officer may require the applicant to give additional information about the application the chief executive officer considers appropriate for consideration of the application.

(sec.282-ssec.1) A law enforcement officer of a law enforcement agency may apply to the chief executive officer of the agency for an authority for the law enforcement officer or another person to do either or both of the following— acquire an assumed identity; use an assumed identity.
(sec.282-ssec.2) A separate application must be made for each assumed identity to be acquired or used.
(sec.282-ssec.3) An application— must be in writing in the form decided by the chief executive officer; and must contain all of the following information— the applicant’s name; if a person other than the applicant is to be authorised to acquire or use an assumed identity—that person’s name; if the person mentioned in subparagraph (ii) is not a law enforcement officer—the name and rank or position of the law enforcement officer proposed to be appointed as supervisor, and an explanation of why it is necessary for a person who is not a law enforcement officer to acquire or use the assumed identity; details of the proposed assumed identity; reasons for the need to acquire or use an assumed identity; details, to the extent known, of the investigation or intelligence gathering exercise in which the assumed identity will be used; details of any issuing agencies and the types of evidence to be issued by them.
(sec.282-ssec.4) The chief executive officer may require the applicant to give additional information about the application the chief executive officer considers appropriate for consideration of the application.
- (a) acquire an assumed identity;
- (b) use an assumed identity.
- (a) must be in writing in the form decided by the chief executive officer; and
- (b) must contain all of the following information— (i) the applicant’s name; (ii) if a person other than the applicant is to be authorised to acquire or use an assumed identity—that person’s name; (iii) if the person mentioned in subparagraph (ii) is not a law enforcement officer—the name and rank or position of the law enforcement officer proposed to be appointed as supervisor, and an explanation of why it is necessary for a person who is not a law enforcement officer to acquire or use the assumed identity; (iv) details of the proposed assumed identity; (v) reasons for the need to acquire or use an assumed identity; (vi) details, to the extent known, of the investigation or intelligence gathering exercise in which the assumed identity will be used; (vii) details of any issuing agencies and the types of evidence to be issued by them.
- (i) the applicant’s name;
- (ii) if a person other than the applicant is to be authorised to acquire or use an assumed identity—that person’s name;
- (iii) if the person mentioned in subparagraph (ii) is not a law enforcement officer—the name and rank or position of the law enforcement officer proposed to be appointed as supervisor, and an explanation of why it is necessary for a person who is not a law enforcement officer to acquire or use the assumed identity;
- (iv) details of the proposed assumed identity;
- (v) reasons for the need to acquire or use an assumed identity;
- (vi) details, to the extent known, of the investigation or intelligence gathering exercise in which the assumed identity will be used;
- (vii) details of any issuing agencies and the types of evidence to be issued by them.
- (i) the applicant’s name;
