### sec.718 Witnesses
The chairperson may, by a notice given to a person (a witness ), require the person to attend the inquiry at a stated time and place to give evidence or produce stated documents or things.
A witness must—
comply with the notice unless the witness has a reasonable excuse; or
continue to attend as required by the chairperson unless the witness has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty—200 penalty units.
The chairperson must pay a witness the witness fee prescribed under a regulation or, if no fee is prescribed, the fee the chairperson considers to be reasonable.
A witness must—
take an oath, or make an affirmation, when required to do so by the chairperson; or
answer a question or produce a document or thing when required to do so by the chairperson unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty—200 penalty units.
It is a reasonable excuse for an individual if answering the question or producing the document or thing might tend to incriminate the individual or make the individual liable to a penalty.
