### sec.688 Executive safety manager’s general obligations
The executive safety manager of an operating plant must—
if the operator is a corporation—nominate an individual as a representative of the operator to give and receive information for the operator under this Act; and
ensure the operator of the plant has, for each stage of the plant, a system that is—
a safety management system for the plant made under section 674 (1) (a) after consultation with the workers at the plant; or
a generic SMS adopted for the plant; and
approve the system before it is put into effect; and
ensure the system is implemented in a way that effectively manages the risks associated with the plant.
Maximum penalty—2,000 penalty units.
To remove any doubt, it is declared that—
a nomination of an operator’s representative under subsection (1) (a) does not affect an obligation imposed on the operator under this Act; and
any information given to or by an operator’s representative is taken to have been given to or by the operator.
