### sec.40A Continuing effect, for s 40 application, of authority to prospect and its work program
This section applies if, other than for subsection (2) , the relevant authority to prospect would, other than by cancellation under this Act, end before an application under section 40 is granted.
The authority continues in force in relation to the area the subject of the application until the earlier of the following—
the start of the term of the lease the subject of the application;
the application is withdrawn.
While the authority continues in force under subsection (2) , and despite any ending of the program period for its work program—
the authority is taken to have a work program; and
its holder may carry out any authorised activity for the authority.

(sec.40A-ssec.1) This section applies if, other than for subsection (2) , the relevant authority to prospect would, other than by cancellation under this Act, end before an application under section 40 is granted.
(sec.40A-ssec.2) The authority continues in force in relation to the area the subject of the application until the earlier of the following— the start of the term of the lease the subject of the application; the application is withdrawn.
(sec.40A-ssec.3) While the authority continues in force under subsection (2) , and despite any ending of the program period for its work program— the authority is taken to have a work program; and its holder may carry out any authorised activity for the authority.

- (b) the application is withdrawn.
