### sec.17 Deputy Speaker
The members of the Assembly must as soon as practicable on sitting after every general election proceed to appoint a member to be Deputy Speaker.
The Deputy Speaker must preside at all meetings of a Committee of the Whole House, unless otherwise provided by the standing rules and orders.
The Deputy Speaker stops holding office on his or her resignation or removal by a vote of the Assembly.
On the Deputy Speaker’s death, resignation or removal by a vote of the Assembly, the members must proceed to appoint another member to be the Deputy Speaker before proceeding to any other business.
