### sec.17 What this part is about
This part is about making a local government change.
A local government change is a change of—
the boundaries of a local government area; or
any divisions of a local government area, other than the City of Brisbane; or
the number of councillors for a local government or divisions of a local government area; or
the name of a local government area; or
the classification of a local government area (from a town to a city, for example).
In summary, the process for making a local government change is as follows—
assessment —the change commission assesses whether a proposed local government change is in the public interest
implementation —the Governor in Council implements the local government change under a regulation.
The change commission , which conducts the assessment phase of the process, is an independent body that is created under this Act.

(sec.17-ssec.1) This part is about making a local government change.
(sec.17-ssec.2) A local government change is a change of— the boundaries of a local government area; or any divisions of a local government area, other than the City of Brisbane; or the number of councillors for a local government or divisions of a local government area; or the name of a local government area; or the classification of a local government area (from a town to a city, for example).
