### sec.117 Advisors
This section applies if the department’s chief executive believes—
a local government is not performing its responsibilities properly; or
a local government is not complying with laws applying to the local government, including the Local Government Acts; or
it is otherwise in the public interest for the department’s chief executive to appoint an advisor for a local government.
The department’s chief executive may, by gazette notice, appoint an advisor for the local government.
An advisor is responsible for—
helping the local government to build its capacity—
to perform its responsibilities properly; or
to comply with laws applying to the local government, including the Local Government Acts; and
performing other related duties as directed by the department’s chief executive.
The local government must cooperate fully with the advisor.

(sec.117-ssec.1) This section applies if the department’s chief executive believes— a local government is not performing its responsibilities properly; or a local government is not complying with laws applying to the local government, including the Local Government Acts; or it is otherwise in the public interest for the department’s chief executive to appoint an advisor for a local government.
(sec.117-ssec.2) The department’s chief executive may, by gazette notice, appoint an advisor for the local government.
(sec.117-ssec.3) An advisor is responsible for— helping the local government to build its capacity— to perform its responsibilities properly; or to comply with laws applying to the local government, including the Local Government Acts; and performing other related duties as directed by the department’s chief executive.
(sec.117-ssec.4) The local government must cooperate fully with the advisor.
- (a) a local government is not performing its responsibilities properly; or
- (b) a local government is not complying with laws applying to the local government, including the Local Government Acts; or
- (c) it is otherwise in the public interest for the department’s chief executive to appoint an advisor for a local government.
