### sec.696 Rules
The law society may make rules (the society rules ) for the following purposes—
to define, and carry out, the objects of the law society;
for the regulation and good government of the law society and its members;
to provide for the way of electing or appointing the presidential members and other council members, and filling a vacancy of a council member, other than an appointed member or person appointed because the person is the immediate past president;
to regulate council meetings and the conduct of business at the meetings;
the custody and use of the law society’s common seal;
the admission, re-admission, resignation, and expulsion of members of the law society;
to fix fees, levies and subscriptions in relation to membership of the law society and to recover unpaid fees, levies and subscriptions;
to waive compliance with the society rules, in whole or in part, absolutely or conditionally, in relation to a member or a class of members.
Society rules must be made by resolution of the council.
