### sec.685 Council of the law society
There is to be a council of the law society.
The council is to consist of not less than 7 and not more than 12 council members, namely—
an Australian legal practitioner appointed by the Minister (the appointed member ); and
the president, any deputy president and the vice-president of the law society as mentioned in section 686 ; and
members of the law society, elected or appointed under the society rules.
Each of the council members is to hold office for a term of 2 years and is eligible for re-election or reappointment under the society rules.
In addition to the members under subsection (2) , a person who is the immediate past president of the law society is, without further appointment, a council member for a term of not longer than 1 year after the person stops being the president.
This section is subject to section 686 .
(sec.685-ssec.1) There is to be a council of the law society.

(sec.685-ssec.3) Each of the council members is to hold office for a term of 2 years and is eligible for re-election or reappointment under the society rules.
