### sec.599 Panel to help the tribunal hear and decide discipline application
This section applies for the tribunal’s hearing and deciding of a discipline application.
Although panel members do not constitute the tribunal, the tribunal is to be helped by 2 panel members chosen by the tribunal’s principal registrar and approved by the tribunal as constituted under section 598 .
The panel members mentioned in subsection (2) must be—
1 lay panel member; and
1 of the following members—
if the complaint is about the conduct of a person who, at the time of performing the acts or omitting to do the acts constituting the conduct complained of, was a barrister or, in the opinion of the tribunal member, was engaged in legal practice in the manner of a barrister—a member of the practitioner panel who is a barrister;
otherwise—a member of the practitioner panel who is a solicitor.
However, if a panel member disqualifies himself or herself as mentioned in section 612 (2) , the tribunal may continue with the relevant hearing if the tribunal members consider it appropriate to do so.
The tribunal’s principal registrar must keep a record of the names of the panel members helping the tribunal and the discipline application for which the hearing is held.

(sec.599-ssec.1) This section applies for the tribunal’s hearing and deciding of a discipline application.

(sec.599-ssec.4) However, if a panel member disqualifies himself or herself as mentioned in section 612 (2) , the tribunal may continue with the relevant hearing if the tribunal members consider it appropriate to do so.
