### sec.158 Borrowing lodged or deposited instrument before registration
The registrar may permit any of the following persons to borrow an instrument lodged or deposited in paper form before the instrument is registered or used for the purpose for which it was deposited—
the person who lodged or deposited the instrument;
a person for whom the instrument was lodged or deposited;
an agent of a person mentioned in paragraph (a) or (b) .
The person must return the instrument to the land registry within the time specified by the registrar.
The registrar may extend the time for returning the instrument.
A person must not fail to return the instrument to the land registry within the time specified or extended by the registrar, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty for subsection (4) —50 penalty units.
