### sec.16 Appointment of president and other members of Land Court
The Governor in Council may appoint the president and other members by commission.
For other provisions relating to the appointment of members, see division 9 .
For the privileges, protection and immunity of members, see section 52D .
Subject to section 42 , an appointment as a member is for 15 years.
If a person appointed as a member is reappointed, the reappointment may be for up to 15 years.
Appointment as a member, other than a member appointed under section 17 , must be on a full-time basis.
A person may be appointed as a member only if the person is a lawyer of at least 5 years standing with extensive experience in 1 or more of the following—
land-related matters;
mining or petroleum issues;
indigenous issues;
another matter or issue the Governor in Council considers to have substantial relevance to the duties of a member.
If a member is appointed as president, the appointment as president is for the remainder of the term for which the member was appointed as a member.
Despite subsections (2) and (3) , a member who, before the end of the member’s term of appointment, starts the hearing of a proceeding may remain a member until the proceeding ends.
