### 47 Jury separation during adjournment
> > (1) The court, on the adjournment of a trial, may –
> >
> > > > (a) allow the jury to separate; or
> > >
> > > > (b) direct that the jury be kept together until it has given its verdict or has been discharged.

> > (2) A jury that is subject to a direction under [subsection (1)(b)](#GS47@Gs1@Hpb@EN) may, during any adjournment of the trial, be taken under the charge of any officer of the court or police officer sworn for that purpose.
>
> > (3) A member of a jury that is subject to a direction under [subsection (1)(b)](#GS47@Gs1@Hpb@EN) must not communicate with any person except –
> >
> > > > (a) another member of that jury; or
> > >
> > > > (b) an officer in charge of that jury, in connection with that officer's duties.
>
> > (4) An officer in charge of a jury that is subject to a direction under [subsection (1)(b)](#GS47@Gs1@Hpb@EN) must not communicate with a member of that jury except in the performance of that officer's duties.

> > (5) An officer of the court or police officer who is to be in charge of a jury that is subject to a direction under [subsection (1)(b)](#GS47@Gs1@Hpb@EN) must take the oath or make the affirmation specified in [Schedule 4](#JS4@EN) .

> > (6) A member of a jury, before leaving the court, must take the oath or make the affirmation specified in [Schedule 5](#JS5@EN) .
