### sec.982 Protection from liability
An official is not civilly liable for an act done, or omission made, honestly and without negligence under this or another Act mentioned in section 899 (4) .
If subsection (1) prevents civil liability attaching to a person, the liability attaches instead to the State.
This section does not apply to an official if the official is a prescribed person under the Public Sector Act 2022 , section 267 .
For protection from civil liability in relation to the chief executive and other prescribed persons under the Public Sector Act 2022 , section 267 , see the Public Sector Act 2022 , section 269 .
In this section—
official means—
the Minister; or
the registrar; or
another officer of the court or commission; or
an inspector; or
a person acting under the direction of an inspector.
