### sec.17 False or misleading information
A person must not give the chief executive or a funded provider housing service information that the person knows is false or misleading in a material particular.
A person applies to the chief executive for a loan to buy a house. The application includes false information about the person’s financial circumstances.
A person applies to the chief executive to be provided with rental accommodation. The application is accompanied by a declaration about the person’s income, made by the person’s employer, that the person knows to be false.
A person is renting a house from a funded provider. In response to a query from the funded provider, the person gives false information about the income of persons living in the house.
Maximum penalty—10 penalty units.
Subsection (1) does not apply to a person who gives the chief executive or a funded provider a document containing housing service information if the person, when giving the document—
tells the chief executive or the funded provider, to the best of the person’s ability, how it is false or misleading; and
if the person has, or can reasonably obtain, the correct information—gives the correct information.
