### sec.86 Approval of modifications by approved vehicle examiners
An approved vehicle examiner may, if authorised to do so under the national regulations, approve a modification of a heavy vehicle if, and only if, the modification complies with a code of practice prescribed by the national regulations for the purposes of this section.
If an approved vehicle examiner approves a modification of a heavy vehicle, the examiner must—
give a certificate approving the modification, in the approved form, to—
the registered operator of the vehicle; or
if there is no registered operator of the vehicle—an owner of the vehicle; and
ensure a plate or label that complies with subsection (3) is fitted or affixed to a conspicuous part of the vehicle.
Maximum penalty—$3000.
For the purposes of subsection (2) (b) , a plate or label complies with this subsection if—
it is of a type approved by the Regulator; and
it is stamped, engraved or marked so as to display information that relates to the modification and that is—
approved by the Regulator; or
prescribed by the national regulations for the purposes of this section.
