### sec.84D Power to stop people committing offence
This section applies if a forest officer or plantation officer—
finds a person committing, or about to commit, an offence against this Act; or
finds a person in circumstances that lead the officer to reasonably suspect the person has committed an offence against this Act; or
has information that leads the officer to reasonably suspect a person has committed an offence against this Act.
The officer may direct the person—
to stop committing the offence; or
to stop any activities forming the basis of the officer’s suspicion mentioned in subsection (1) (b) or (c) ; or
to remain at a place to allow the officer to exercise his or her powers under this Act; or
if it is relevant to the offence mentioned in subsection (1) whether the person is licensed to drive a vehicle under a law of the State—to produce a licence.
A person given a direction under this section must comply with the direction, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty for subsection (3) —100 penalty units.
