### sec.33 Meaning of monitoring
Monitoring , in relation to monitoring the impact of an activity on the receiving environment, includes analysing, assessing, examining, inspecting, measuring, modelling or reporting any of the following matters—
the quantity, quality, characteristics, timing and variability of the release of any contaminant;
the effectiveness of any control measure;
the characteristics of, and impact on, the receiving environment;
the effectiveness of remedial or rehabilitation measures.
