### sec.74 Purpose of chapter
The purpose of this chapter is to provide for measures to improve the quality of the water entering the Great Barrier Reef to—
support the outstanding universal value of the Great Barrier Reef for which the reef was inscribed on the World Heritage List; and
protect and enhance the biological integrity and diversity of the aquatic ecosystems of the Great Barrier Reef, including—
the coral reef, mangrove and seagrass ecosystems of the reef; and
the aquatic ecosystems of the river basins from which water enters the Great Barrier Reef; and
improve the health and resilience of the aquatic ecosystems of the reef so they are better able to withstand and recover from disturbances.
