### sec.12A Application of division This division applies to a coal mine on land the subject of a mining lease if— coal mining operations are carried out at the coal mine within any of the following areas (each an overlapping area )— the area of a petroleum lease (an overlapping petroleum lease ); an area adjacent to the area of a petroleum lease (an adjacent petroleum lease ); an area adjacent to the area of a mineral hydrocarbon mining lease, within the meaning of the Mineral Resources Act 1989 , section 739 ; and the coal mining operations physically affect, or may physically affect the safety of persons or plant in the area of the petroleum lease. (sec.12A-ssec.2) In this section— mining lease means a mining lease granted before 27 September 2016. - (a) coal mining operations are carried out at the coal mine within any of the following areas (each an overlapping area )— (i) the area of a petroleum lease (an overlapping petroleum lease ); (ii) an area adjacent to the area of a petroleum lease (an adjacent petroleum lease ); (iii) an area adjacent to the area of a mineral hydrocarbon mining lease, within the meaning of the Mineral Resources Act 1989 , section 739 ; and - (i) the area of a petroleum lease (an overlapping petroleum lease ); - (ii) an area adjacent to the area of a petroleum lease (an adjacent petroleum lease ); - (iii) an area adjacent to the area of a mineral hydrocarbon mining lease, within the meaning of the Mineral Resources Act 1989 , section 739 ; and - (b) the coal mining operations physically affect, or may physically affect the safety of persons or plant in the area of the petroleum lease. - (i) the area of a petroleum lease (an overlapping petroleum lease ); - (ii) an area adjacent to the area of a petroleum lease (an adjacent petroleum lease ); - (iii) an area adjacent to the area of a mineral hydrocarbon mining lease, within the meaning of the Mineral Resources Act 1989 , section 739 ; and
