### sec.231 Court to ensure parties understand proceeding
The Childrens Court must, as far as practicable, ensure the parties to a proceeding understand the nature, purpose and legal implications of the proceeding and of any order or ruling made by the court.
If a party to a proceeding has a difficulty communicating in English or a disability that prevents the party from understanding or taking part in the proceeding, the Childrens Court must not hear the proceeding without an interpreter to translate things said in the proceeding or a person to facilitate the party taking part in the proceeding.

(sec.231-ssec.1) The Childrens Court must, as far as practicable, ensure the parties to a proceeding understand the nature, purpose and legal implications of the proceeding and of any order or ruling made by the court.
(sec.231-ssec.2) If a party to a proceeding has a difficulty communicating in English or a disability that prevents the party from understanding or taking part in the proceeding, the Childrens Court must not hear the proceeding without an interpreter to translate things said in the proceeding or a person to facilitate the party taking part in the proceeding.
