Judgment (128 paragraphs)
The applicant and his wife bought a home at 32 Arunta Street, Narrabundah. After the applicant was married, and while he was working as a truck driver for the Government Printing Office, he supplemented his income by doing some tailoring work at home after hours. Mrs. Pochi also went to work for a little time, but their first child, Anthony, was born 11 months after the marriage and Mrs. Pochi's health did not allow her to continue working after the birth of that child. The second child, Serina, was born in 1964, and again Mrs. Pochi was ill during and for a time after that pregnancy. Her health improved sufficiently to allow her to go back to work, first as a cleaner and then as a secretary, but she stopped work before the birth of the third child, Claudia, in 1973. In the meantime, the applicant had left his job as a truck driver and gone into partnership in a tailoring business in Canberra. Although the evidence is not precise, he does not appear to have made a large income from tailoring but he continued in business from 1963 until August 1975. His partnership was terminated in 1971 or 1972, and he carried on the business on his own account thereafter. The business was sound enough to warrant the expenditure of some $3,000 on fittings for his shop in 1974. The refurbishing of this shop was accomplished whilst the applicant was on a trip back to Italy in that year, when he bought some quality clothing for import and sale. The trip cost him about $2,000.
