[5] In the proceedings to date the ACTU has proposed that a number of occupation based modern awards should be made. The occupations are: private sector clerical, nursing, professional engineers and scientists, maintenance functions traditionally covered by the Metal, Engineering and Associated Industries Award 1998 [1] and electricians and electrical contractors. The private sector clerical occupation and the metal and associated industries are being dealt with as priority modern awards. While the other occupations are not specifically included in the modern award lists the proposals will be considered at the appropriate time. We indicated in our 20 June 2008 decision that the proposal for a nursing occupational award should be dealt with in conjunction with the aged care and health industries.[2] The health and welfare services industry (excluding social and community services) has now been included in Stage 2. We indicated in our 20 June 2008 decision we would not deal with the proposal for an occupational modern award for professional engineers and scientists in the priority stage.[3] The position can be reconsidered once the modern award for the metal and associated industries is made. We also said in our 20 June 2008 decision that we would not deal with the proposal for an occupational modern award for electricians and electrical contractors in the priority stage.[4] This matter also can be reconsidered once the modern award for the metal and associated industries has been made. While we have included the electrical contracting industry in the building, metal and civil construction group in Stage 2, this does not prejudice consideration of the proposal for an electricians and electrical contracting occupational modern award.
