#### 1 — Short title
This Act may be cited as the World Health Organization Act 1947.
#### 2 — Commencement
This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.
#### 3 — Definitions
In this Act:

> the Constitution means the Constitution of the World Health Organization, a copy of which Constitution is set out in the First Schedule to this Act.

> the World Health Organization means the Organization established under that name by the Constitution.

> the Arrangement means the Arrangement establishing an Interim Commission of the World Health Organization, a copy of which Arrangement is set out in the Second Schedule to this Act.
#### 4 — Extension to Territories
This Act shall extend to every Territory.
#### 5 — Membership of Australia of the World Health Organization etc.
Approval is given to:
    (a) Australia’s becoming a member of the World Health Organization; and
    (b) the acceptance by Australia of the Arrangement.
#### 6 — Regulations
The Governor‑General may make such regulations as are necessary or expedient for carrying out and giving effect to the Constitution (other than Chapter XV) and the Arrangement and conventions, agreements and regulations adopted under the Constitution (other than under Chapter XV), and in particular for prescribing penalties, of imprisonment for a period not exceeding 12 months or a fine not exceeding 10 penalty units, for offences against the regulations made under this Act.
