The Fund provides financial help to elderly veterans (sailors, soldiers, and airmen) who need assistance.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n* **Eligible veterans** — elderly former members of Australia's defence forces who qualify for help under the main Act (the 1932 legislation that established the Fund).\n* **The Trust** — the body responsible for managing the Fund and deciding who gets assistance.\n\n**How it works:**\n\n* **Applying for help:** Veterans must apply in writing, explaining what help they need and why. They must provide any extra documents or information the Trust asks for.\n* **Decision-making:** The Trust has broad discretion — it can approve or refuse applications as it sees fit, decide how much money to give, and attach conditions to the assistance.\n* **Record-keeping:** The Trust must keep a register of all applications and what assistance (if any) was provided.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThese regulations ensure there's a transparent, consistent process for distributing money from a long-standing veterans' welfare fund.
