They distinguish veterinarians from other users, limit off‑label or unregistered uses, require written statements, treatment records and withholding periods, and attach fines for breaches.\n\nThe Chief Veterinary Officer can authorise uses outside label instructions and the APVMA can exempt authorised uses. The rules therefore allocate decision‑making to regulators and veterinarians, and impose compliance, recordkeeping and liability costs on animal carers and prescribers."},"summary":{"complexity_score":1,"scope_assessment":{"changed":false,"description":"Scope cannot be assessed as the legislative text was not available in the provided source material. The current version is significantly narrower, focusing primarily on the use of veterinary chemicals by vets and non-vets, withholding periods, and general administrative provisions. These must be kept for 3 years.\n- **Withholding periods** (waiting times before slaughter or harvesting milk/eggs/wool) must be observed and communicated to buyers.\n- **Records:** Non-vets treating major species must keep treatment records for 3 years.\n- **Bees special rule:** Antibiotics on bees require written approval from the Director.\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThese rules protect food safety by ensuring chemical residues don't end up in meat, milk, eggs, or honey consumed by humans. They also prevent antibiotic resistance and ensure animals are treated properly."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006","history":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006/history","analysis":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/veterinary-chemical-control-regulations-2006/documents"}}
