It moves pieces of land between these owners and clears up some legal technicalities about who owns what.\n\n**Key things it does:**\n\n* **Gives Victoria Park land to the Council:** About 7 acres of University land next to Parramatta Road becomes part of Victoria Park, managed by the City Council.\n* **Gives park land to the University:** About 9 acres of Victoria Park (near City Road) is transferred to the University for campus expansion.\n* **Lets the Council run drains through University land:** The City Council keeps the right to build and maintain sewer pipes under part of the land now owned by the University.\n* **Fixes a legal problem for St Paul's College:** It validates a land transfer to St Paul's College that had technical defects, making it legally sound. It also restricts how tall the University can build a Physics Laboratory next to the college (no higher than the existing building without the college's consent).\n* **Helps Women's College get land:** It allows the University to formally set aside at least 2 acres for Women's College, treating it as if it were replacing a lapsed earlier grant intended for Wesleyan Methodists.\n* **Frees up remaining University land:** Land not given to the Council or colleges is released from old trust restrictions and can be used by the University for buildings, parks, or gardens as it sees fit.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n* The University of Sydney and its colleges (St Paul's, Women's College, St Andrew's, St John's, Wesley College)\n* The City of Sydney (for Victoria Park and drainage rights)\n* Prince Alfred Hospital (mentioned as having already received some land)\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis Act shaped the modern boundaries of the University of Sydney campus and Victoria Park. It allowed the University to expand onto parkland while compensating the public with other land, resolved long-standing uncertainties about college land ownership, and enabled the development of the Physics Laboratory and other campus buildings."},"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":6,"scope_assessment":{"changed":true,"description":"The Act changes property rights compared with the original 1855 Crown grant by: vesting certain parkland in the Municipal Council and other parcels in the University (ss 2–3); validating a historic subgrant to Saint Paul’s College (s 7); reserving drainage rights to the Council (s 6); and discharging former trusts in favour of colleges so that lands are held for general University purposes under substituted trusts (s 9).
