Its finances are audited by the Auditor-General.\n- **Transferred assets**: When the law took effect, it wound up the old \"Theatre Royal Board\" (set up in 1973) and transferred the theatre property and equipment to the new Board. The land itself reverted to Crown (government) ownership.\n- **Ministerial oversight**: The Minister can give directions to the Board, but these must be tabled in Parliament.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Theatre-goers and performing arts companies in Tasmania\n- Board members and staff of the Theatre Royal\n- The Tasmanian Government (Minister for the Arts, Auditor-General, Parliament)\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis law ensures Tasmania's oldest theatre (opened 1837) is professionally managed as both a commercial venue and a cultural institution, balancing heritage conservation with contemporary performing arts.
