Instead of limiting the weight of squid caught, it restricts the number of machines used to catch them. This prevents fishers from simply deploying more or bigger equipment to circumvent catch limits, helping ensure squid stocks remain sustainable. The Australian Fisheries Management Authority sets this cap annually to balance commercial fishing opportunities with environmental protection."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016","history":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016/history","analysis":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/southern-squid-jig-fishery-total-allowable-effort-determination-2016/documents"}}
