This law overrides any legal restrictions that might have prevented building sports facilities on that land. It explicitly allows the land to be used for sport, recreation, entertainment, social activities, and any buildings or structures needed for those purposes.\n- **Blocks compensation claims**: If anyone (such as neighbouring landowners or community groups) might have had a legal right to claim compensation for this change in land use, this law says the government doesn't have to pay them.\n- **Limits court challenges**: The law prevents the Supreme Court from hearing certain types of legal challenges against these decisions (specifically, it overrides section 85 of the Constitution Act 1975, which normally guarantees compensation when property rights are affected).\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- **Sports users**: Netball and hockey players who use or will use the new centre.\n- **Local community**: People who use Royal Park for recreation, though the law specifically authorises the sports facility development.\n- **Potential claimants**: Anyone who might otherwise have sued for compensation over the land use change.\n\n**Why it matters:**\nWithout this law, building a major sports complex on land reserved for public park use could have faced legal challenges based on the original 1876 reservation. The law removes that risk and ensures the project can proceed without the government having to pay compensation to affected parties."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999","history":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999/history","analysis":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/royal-park-land-act-1999/documents"}}
