It primarily affects manufacturers but can shift costs to importers, retailers and consumers and change production, design or sourcing incentives depending on how the executive sets the charge. The law’s economic impact therefore hinges on the forthcoming regulations."},"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"Unauthenticated. Configure AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY or use a provider module. It creates a financial penalty for manufacturers who don't meet Australia's emissions standards. The money raised likely helps fund the regulatory scheme that checks and enforces these standards. It's designed to encourage cleaner manufacturing and ensure non-compliant products don't flood the Australian market.\n\n**Key thing to know:** The actual charge amounts aren't in this Act — they're left to regulations, which means the government can adjust them without needing new laws passed through Parliament."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017","history":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017/history","analysis":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/product-emissions-standards-excise-charges-act-2017/documents"}}
