The Schedule at the end tweaks those employment laws specifically for RetailCorp, mostly removing certain standard public service requirements\n\n- **Financial perks** – RetailCorp doesn't have to pay local council rates on land it owns, though if it leases land to someone else, the tenant pays the rates instead\n\n- **Legal protections** – Employees are protected from being sued personally for actions they take in good faith while doing their job\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis is essentially the \"birth certificate\" and rulebook for the Northern Territory's government-owned electricity retailer. It sets up the legal structure that allows the government to run a power company while giving it commercial flexibility (like being able to develop new products and consult for profit) and some financial advantages over private competitors."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014","history":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014/history","analysis":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/power-retail-corporation-act-2014/documents"}}
