Police appearing as witnesses in civil court cases**\n- When a police officer is called to give evidence in a civil lawsuit (not a criminal case), the person who called them must pay:\n  - Half the officer's daily salary for each half-day spent travelling to court, attending, and returning\n  - Travel costs (transport to and from court)\n  - Meal costs for each day of the hearing\n  - Accommodation allowance if the officer must stay overnight\n- Officers cannot claim overtime from the person calling them.\n\n**2. False alarm fees**\n- If police attend a property in response to a false alarm 3 times within 28 days, the property owner or occupier must pay a fee of 200 \"revenue units\" (a standard monetary unit set by NT law) for every subsequent false alarm.\n- This \"clock\" resets if 90 days pass without another false alarm.\n- The Police Commissioner can waive the fee in special circumstances.\n- A \"false alarm\" means an alarm triggered by something other than actual criminal activity.\n\n**3. Other police services**\nThe Schedule lists fees for various services including:\n- **Police escorts** (members, cars, motorcycles, horses, boats)\n- **Special guard duty**\n- **Sporting or entertainment events** (only charged if 3+ officers attend; covers crowd control, traffic management, and planning)\n- **Support services** (horses, vehicles, boats, aircraft)\n- **Reports and certificates** (accident reports, stolen property reports, passport/visa checks, national police certificates)\n- **Forensic services** (DNA analysis, fingerprinting, photography)\n- **Copies of documents** (photocopying, electronic copies of interviews)\n\n**Who it affects:** Anyone requesting police services for private purposes (event organisers, individuals needing police certificates, people involved in civil litigation, property owners with faulty alarms).\n\n**Why it matters:** It ensures police can recover costs for services provided outside their core public duties, while setting clear rules about what costs can be passed on to the public."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985","history":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985/history","analysis":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/police-administration-fees-regulations-1985/documents"}}
