They create a licensing system with different types of licences for different skill levels and types of work.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- **Gas-fitters** – people who install and repair gas appliances and pipes in buildings (split into: certifiers, restricted certifiers, provisional, provisional restricted, and restricted practitioners)\n- **Automotive gas-fitters** – people who work on gas systems in cars, forklifts, and industrial engines (same licence categories as above)\n- **Contractors** – businesses that employ gas-fitters\n- **Homeowners and businesses** – anyone getting gas work done\n\n**Key things the rules cover:**\n\n- **What work needs a licence:** Most gas work requires a licensed person, including installing gas pipes, appliances, and storage systems. Some simple tasks are exempt (like connecting a portable BBQ cylinder).\n- **Record keeping:** Licence holders must keep records of all work for 10 years.\n- **Defective work:** If gas work is faulty or dangerous, the person who did it must fix it at their own cost (unless someone else caused the defect).\n- **Fees:** Sets out how much different licences cost (ranging from roughly $150 to $330 in fee units, paid annually or every three years depending on the licence type).\n- **Infringements:** Lists fines for breaking the rules – from minor paperwork failures to serious safety breaches like doing unlicensed work.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nGas work can be deadly if done wrong (explosions, carbon monoxide poisoning, fires). These rules ensure only trained, licensed people do the work, and create a paper trail so faulty work can be traced and fixed. The regulations also align Tasmania's system with national standards (AS/NZS 5601)."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021","history":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021/history","analysis":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/occupational-licensing-gas-fitting-work-regulations-2021/documents"}}
