Fees vary depending on:\n  - The type of case (e.g., small claims, tenancy disputes, discrimination complaints, guardianship matters)\n  - The amount of money involved (higher claims cost more)\n  - Whether the applicant is an individual or a company (body corporate)\n  - How many days a hearing lasts (first day is free, later days incur escalating charges)\n- **Sets payment timing**: Most fees are paid when the Tribunal demands them, but application fees must accompany the paperwork upfront.\n- **Provides exemptions**: The Northern Territory Government doesn't pay fees, though it might have to reimburse them if it loses and is ordered to pay costs. The Registrar can also waive fees for people experiencing financial hardship.\n- **Limits internal reviews**: It specifies that certain decisions cannot be appealed internally within the Tribunal—specifically decisions about health practitioners, land acquisition recommendations, and anti-discrimination decisions.\n- **Handles transitional matters**: It protects existing discrimination cases from new restrictions on internal reviews that took effect in 2022.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Anyone taking a dispute to NTCAT (tenants, landlords, consumers, businesses, discrimination complainants)\n- Government agencies appearing before the Tribunal\n- People seeking guardianship or medical decision-making orders (who pay no fees)\n\n**Why it matters:**\nThis determines the **cost of accessing justice** in the Northern Territory's main dispute resolution forum. The sliding scale tries to keep it affordable for small claims and individuals, while the fee waivers ensure financial hardship isn't a barrier to justice."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014","history":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014/history","analysis":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/northern-territory-civil-and-administrative-tribunal-regulations-2014/documents"}}
