Specifically, individuals must be registered company auditors, and companies must be authorised audit companies (both terms defined in the Corporations Act 2001).\n- **Prevents conflicts of interest:** Auditors cannot be members, employees, or senior managers of the representative body being audited, or of any related company. This ensures independence — auditors can't check their own work.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Native Title Representative Bodies (organisations funded to assist Indigenous groups with land rights)\n- The auditors they hire\n- The federal government, which oversees these bodies\n\n**Why it matters:**\nNative Title Representative Bodies handle public money and significant responsibilities for Indigenous land rights. These rules ensure their finances are checked by qualified, independent professionals — protecting both taxpayer funds and the interests of Traditional Owners."},"flash_summary_failed":{"failed":true,"reason":"A positive credit balance is required for all requests, including BYOK, so fallback providers remain available.
