This Act may be cited as the National Residue Survey (Horse Slaughter) Levy Act 1992.\n\nCommencement\n\n2. This Act commences on 1 July 1993.\n\nAct binds Crown\n\n3. This Act binds the Crown in right of each of the States, of the Australian Capital Territory, of the Northern Territory and of Norfolk Island.\n\nInterpretation\n\n4. Unless the contrary intention appears, a word or expression has the same meaning in this Act as it has in the Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection Act 1991.\n\nImposition\n\n5.(1) Subject to subsection (2), National Residue Survey Levy is imposed on the slaughter at an abattoir of horses intended for human consumption.\n\n(2) Levy is not imposed on the slaughter of horses the carcases of which are, under a law of the Commonwealth or of a State, condemned or rejected by an inspector as being unfit for human consumption.\n\nRate of levy\n\n6. The rate of levy imposed on horses is $4.00 per head or such other rate, not exceeding $5.00 per head as is prescribed by regulation.\n\nWho pays the levy\n\n7. The levy is payable by producer.\n\nRegulations\n\n8.
