They replace earlier 1997 regulations and cover where, how, and for how long people can park their vehicles.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- **Visitors** to Mount Lofty summit who drive there\n- **People with disabilities** who hold valid parking permits (they get extended time limits and access to designated permit areas)\n- **Commercial vehicles** making deliveries\n- **Park rangers and wardens** who enforce the rules\n- **Vehicle owners** who can be held responsible for parking offences even if they weren't driving\n\n**Key rules explained:**\n\n- **Park only in designated spots** — no random roadside parking (regulation 5)\n- **Stay within the lines** — your vehicle must fit entirely inside a marked parking space, though long vehicles can take multiple spaces if parallel parking (regulation 6)\n- **Angle parking** — park at the designated angle (usually 45°) with wheels close to the kerb; long vehicles can't use angle parking spots (regulation 7)\n- **Don't block pedestrians** — leave enough space between vehicles for people to walk through (regulation 8)\n- **No Standing Zones** — absolutely no stopping, not even briefly (regulation 9)\n- **No Parking Areas** — you may stop only to immediately drop off or pick up passengers/goods (regulation 9)\n- **Permit Areas** — special spots for disability permit holders (90 minutes extra time allowed) or other authorised vehicles (regulation 10)\n- **Loading Areas** — commercial vehicles get 30 minutes to load/unload; other vehicles get 10 minutes only if carrying heavy/bulky items (regulation 11)\n- **Pay for parking** where fees apply, and display tickets properly on the passenger side of the windscreen (regulations 14)\n- **Time limits** — overstaying means fines, with additional fines for every hour you remain parked illegally (regulations 13 and 15)\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nMount Lofty summit is a popular tourist destination with limited space. These rules prevent chaos, ensure emergency access, protect the natural environment from vehicles parking randomly, and make sure people with disabilities have reserved parking close to facilities. The regulations also establish a clear enforcement system with set fines (expiation fees) for minor offences and higher penalties for serious ones like damaging signs or equipment.\n\n**Special notes:**\n\n- Emergency vehicles, police, ambulances, and park maintenance vehicles are exempt when on official business (regulation 18)\n- Rangers can mark tyres with chalk to check how long vehicles have been parked (regulation 17)\n- \"Owner\" has a broad definition — if you're registered as the owner, or have recently bought the car, or have hired it, you can be held liable for parking fines (regulation 3)"}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012","history":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012/history","analysis":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/national-parks-and-wildlife-parking-regulations-2012/documents"}}
