The Act includes detailed mechanisms to adjust boundaries, preserve access for neighbouring landowners, and manage the transition of existing leases and interests.\n\n**Key features:**\n- Seven detailed schedules listing specific land parcels by forest number, parish, and county\n- Special provisions for access roads (so neighbouring landowners don't lose access)\n- Time-limited powers to adjust land descriptions (expiring 2001–2007 depending on the adjustment type)\n- Protections for Aboriginal land rights claims made before April 2000"},"flash_summary":{"complexity_score":8,"scope_assessment":{"changed":true,"description":"The original Act (2000) was intended to transfer a specific set of lands as listed in the original schedules. It cancels the existing classification as State forest or timber reserve for these areas and instead designates them as national parks, nature reserves, or state recreation areas under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. Some small areas are also set aside as flora reserves under the Forestry Act. The land is managed either by the National Parks and Wildlife Service or, in some cases, by the National Parks and Wildlife Reserve Trust. The law affects logging rights, existing leases, and access roads. It also allows minor boundary adjustments to improve management. This is part of a broader program to expand protected areas in the region."},"summary":{"complexity_score":5,"scope_assessment":{"changed":true,"description":"The Act has clearly evolved significantly from its original 2000 form. This law permanently changes how specific pieces of southern NSW land can be used, locking in conservation outcomes for future generations.\n\n### A living document\nThis Act has been amended **many times** since it was first passed — with at least 17 separate versions recorded between 2001 and 2018 — suggesting that land parcels have been added, removed, or reclassified over time. A related bill (Environment and Water Legislation Amendment Bill 2025) may further change it."},"issue_detection":{"absurdities":[],"contradictions":[]}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000","history":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000/history","analysis":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/national-park-estate-southern-region-reservations-act-2000/documents"}}
