This includes things like serving court documents on someone overseas, taking witness statements, freezing criminal assets, or gathering evidence abroad.\n\nThese regulations simply declare that this law applies to New Zealand. This means Australian police, prosecutors, and courts can make official requests to New Zealand authorities for help with criminal cases, and New Zealand can do the same with Australia.\n\n**Who it affects:** You won't notice this unless you're involved in a criminal matter that crosses the Tasman. It mainly affects law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, defence lawyers, and courts handling trans-Tasman criminal cases."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations","history":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations/history","analysis":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/mutual-assistance-in-criminal-matters-new-zealand-regulations/documents"}}
