Higher classes let you teach lower classes too.\n- **Requires safety equipment**: Any car used for driving lessons must have dual controls (brake and clutch/ignition for the instructor) and proper mirrors, unless exempted.\n- **Medical fitness**: Instructors must pass medical exams, including eyesight tests, to prove they're physically capable of controlling a vehicle.\n- **Fees and exemptions**: Most people pay fees to apply and get licences (around $100+ to apply, small amounts for the licence itself), but police, teachers, and certain government employees can be exempted.\n- **Record keeping**: Instructors must hand in expired or cancelled licences, notify the government of address changes within 7 days, and show their licence when asked by officials or students.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Anyone wanting to become a paid driving instructor in WA\n- Driving schools and training organisations\n- People learning to drive (ensures their instructor is qualified)\n- Government bodies like the Police Force, Fire and Emergency Services, and Public Transport Authority who employ instructors\n\n**Why it matters:**\nIt ensures that people teaching driving skills are properly qualified, medically fit, and using safe vehicles—protecting learner drivers and other road users from unqualified or unsafe instruction."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964","history":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964/history","analysis":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/motor-vehicle-drivers-instructors-regulations-1964/documents"}}
