This matters because under the *Lotteries Commission Act 1990*, the Western Australian Lotteries Commission can only conduct joint lottery operations with organisations that have been formally designated through these regulations.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- **Lottery operators**: The five organisations named in the regulations (covering NSW, NT, Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria)\n- **Western Australian consumers**: Anyone who buys lottery tickets in WA that involve cross-border jackpot pools or shared games\n- **The WA Lotteries Commission**: It needs this list to know which interstate partners it can legally work with\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nWithout these regulations, the WA Lotteries Commission couldn't legally run joint lotteries with interstate operators. This would mean no shared jackpot pools (like Oz Lotto or Powerball across multiple states) and potentially smaller prizes for WA players. The regulations ensure that when you buy a lottery ticket in Perth that links to a national draw, that arrangement has proper legal backing.\n\n**The five designated authorities are:**\n- **NSW**: New South Wales Lotteries Corporation Pty Ltd\n- **Northern Territory**: Tatts NT Lotteries Pty Ltd  \n- **Queensland**: Golden Casket Lottery Corporation Limited\n- **South Australia**: Lotteries Commission of South Australia\n- **Victoria**: Tattersall's Sweeps Pty Ltd\n\nThe regulations have been updated twice (in 2010 and 2012) to reflect changes in company names and Australian Company Numbers (ACNs) as corporate structures evolved."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998","history":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998/history","analysis":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/lotteries-commission-designated-authorities-regulations-1998/documents"}}
