It does four main things:\n\n- **Cancels permanent protections** on two pieces of land in South Melbourne and Geelong that had been set aside for public purposes (a former orphanage site and two Sailors' Rest sites). This allows the land to be used for something else.\n- **Cancels an old Crown grant** from 1862 that gave land in Sandridge (now Port Melbourne) to the local council for a public market.\n- **Allows the sale of Port Melbourne land** to the City of Port Melbourne council, clearing the title so the council can own it outright.\n- **Allows a long-term lease** on Crown land in Frankston for a caravan park, valid until 31 December 2006.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- The City of Port Melbourne (now part of the City of Port Phillip), which gets the opportunity to buy land.\n- Anyone leasing the Frankston land for the caravan park.\n- The Victorian Government, which regains control over the South Melbourne and Geelong sites.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis is a \"housekeeping\" law that clears up old land reservations and grants from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It removes restrictions that were no longer needed, transfers land to local government, and enables commercial use (the caravan park) of previously reserved Crown land. Importantly, **section 8 states nobody gets compensation** for any of these changes.\n\n**Key takeaway:** This is a one-off tidying-up exercise for specific pieces of land, not a general law that applies broadly."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984","history":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984/history","analysis":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/lands-miscellaneous-matters-act-1984/documents"}}
