Think of it as setting up a local advisory board that helps look after a specific national park.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n*   **The Committee members themselves** — 7 people appointed by the Minister, including government employees, Aboriginal representatives (both those living in the park and those with interests outside it), and other community members with an interest in the park.\n*   **The Parks and Wildlife Commission** — the Committee advises this government body on park management.\n*   **Visitors to Keep River National Park** — indirectly, through decisions about camping, tourism, and park facilities.\n\n**Key features:**\n\n*   **Membership rules:** The Committee must have 7 members with specific representation requirements — 2 public servants, 2 Aboriginal representatives (one from families living in the park, one from other interested groups), and 3 general community members. Politicians are banned from serving.\n*   **Terms:** Members serve 3-year terms and can be reappointed.\n*   **How it operates:** The Committee elects its own Chair, must meet at least once a year, and needs 3 members present to make decisions (with special rules about Aboriginal representation at meetings).\n*   **What it does:** The Committee advises on practical park management — things like building facilities, tourism programs, fire control, protecting native plants and animals, controlling feral pests, and respecting Aboriginal culture and sacred sites.\n*   **Confidentiality:** Members must keep information they learn confidential.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis legislation ensures local voices — particularly Aboriginal traditional owners and community stakeholders — have a formal say in how Keep River National Park is managed. It creates a partnership between government and the community for protecting both the natural environment and cultural heritage."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992","history":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992/history","analysis":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/keep-river-national-park-local-management-committee-regulations-1992/documents"}}
