It does three simple things:\n\n- **Closes part of a street:** It officially shuts down a 32-perch section of \"Broadway\" (about 800 square metres) so it is no longer a public road.\n- **Wipes the slate clean:** It cancels any existing rights, access rights (easements), or legal claims that anyone might have over that land from when it was a public street.\n- **Hands it to the fire brigade:** It allows the government to lease this land to the Country Fire Brigades Board for a peppercorn rent (maximum £1 per year) to build a fire station, without having to auction the lease publicly.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\n- The Country Fire Brigades Board (now part of the Country Fire Authority), which got cheap land for a fire station.\n- The local council (Shire of Dimboola), which had already agreed to the closure.\n- Anyone who might have thought they had rights to use that bit of Broadway as a road.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nThis is an example of a \"private Act\" — legislation passed to solve one specific local problem rather than make general rules. Instead of using general land administration powers, the Victorian Parliament passed a bespoke law to convert a public road into Crown land and gift a cheap lease to a public service. These kinds of Acts were common in the early 20th century for minor land dealings that didn't fit neatly into existing bureaucracy."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922","history":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922/history","analysis":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/jeparit-land-act-1922/documents"}}
