Its board members lose their jobs immediately.\n- **Transfers Jabiru into normal local government** — the town becomes part of the West Arnhem Regional Council area, just like any other town in the region.\n- **Hands over contracts and debts** — any contracts the Authority had now involve the West Arnhem Regional Council instead; any property, money owed, or legal obligations go to the Northern Territory government.\n- **Updates old references** — any document mentioning the old Authority or the old Act now automatically refers to the West Arnhem Regional Council or the *Local Government Act 2019*.\n- **Keeps some old rules temporarily** — local by-laws (town rules) made under the old system stay in force until 1 January 2025, but only for the Jabiru area, and they now apply as if the Regional Council made them.\n\n**Who it affects:**\n- Residents and businesses in Jabiru (now under normal council rules instead of a special authority)\n- The West Arnhem Regional Council (takes over responsibility for roads, contracts, and local governance)\n- The Northern Territory government (inherits any debts or assets from the old Authority)\n\n**Why it matters:**\nJabiru was created as a \"company town\" to support uranium mining and had unusual governance arrangements. This law **normalises** the town — ending its special status and bringing it under the same local government system as the rest of the Northern Territory. This reflects the winding down of the Ranger mine and the transition of Jabiru to a more typical regional town."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021","history":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021/history","analysis":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/jabiru-town-development-repeal-act-2021/documents"}}
