This ensures the government has the legal authority and cash available to make payments to:\n\n* **Invalid pensioners** — people unable to work due to disability or illness\n* **Old-age pensioners** — elderly Australians receiving retirement income\n\n**Why it matters**\n\nAppropriation Acts like this are the legal machinery that turns budget promises into actual spendable money. Without this specific law, the government could not legally make pension payments, even if the policy had been announced. It essentially fills the piggy bank that pays for Australia’s social security safety net."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938","history":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938/history","analysis":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/invalid-and-old-age-pensions-appropriation-act-1938/documents"}}
