Industrial hemp is a variety of cannabis plant with very low levels of THC (the compound that gets people 'high'), grown for fibre, seed, and oil rather than drug use.\n\n**Key things the regulations cover:**\n\n*   **Keeping a register:** The Registrar (the government official in charge) must maintain a register tracking:\n    *   Licensed industrial hemp crops being grown\n    *   Premises where hemp is processed\n    *   Premises where hemp seed is stored\n\n*   **Setting fees:** The regulations prescribe specific fees for:\n    *   **$328** — Applying for a new licence to grow or deal with industrial hemp\n    *   **$131** — Renewing an existing licence\n    *   **$328** — Transferring a licence to another person or entity\n\n*   **Giving the Registrar flexibility:** The Registrar has authority to determine additional fees and charges for certain matters under the parent Act (the *Industrial Hemp Act 2004*).\n\n**Who it affects:**\n\nAnyone wanting to commercially grow, process, or store industrial hemp in Western Australia. This includes farmers, processors, and seed suppliers who need licences to operate legally.\n\n**Why it matters:**\n\nIndustrial hemp is a regulated crop because of its relationship to cannabis. These regulations create the administrative framework that allows farmers to legally cultivate hemp while ensuring government oversight through licensing, registration of activities, and fees that fund the regulatory scheme."}},"importantCases":[],"_links":{"self":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004","history":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004/history","analysis":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004/analysis","conflicts":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004/conflicts","importantCases":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004/important-cases","documents":"/api/acts/industrial-hemp-regulations-2004/documents"}}
